Unit 2: Marine ProducersIn this unit you will discuss the reactants and products of photosynthesis and observe how an aquatic plant absorbs carbon dioxide and releases oxygen. Then you will meet phytoplankton, the prolific performers of photosynthesis and most important marine producers. You will then interpret chlorophyll satellite imagery to apply your understanding of the concept of seasonal change. You will consider the unity of life, those characteristics that all living things share, as well as the biodiversity of the ocean and its ecosystems. Finally you will make connections between phytoplankton, chlorophyll, and the marine food web. You will construct a marine food web analyzing the feeding relationships between marine organisms as well as the transfer of energy and nutrients.
